Meta Mezan
BA (Hons) Fine Art and Illustration

My name is Meta Mezan, I was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where I currently live and work. Since I can remember, I was creative, that is why I decided to study Fine Art and Illustration at Coventry University, where I am finished my undergraduate studies. It was here that I furthered expanded my knowledge in printmaking and animation, which influenced my painting. Before coming to university, painting was my main medium, now I primarily work in painting, printmaking, and digital illustration/animation. My first group exhibition was part of the festival Lesbian Quarter in 2014, titled Spaces, Traces, and Shadows. In 2018 my work was part of the exhibition in Ravnikar Gallery, titled Air4. I received three awards for the top 10 finalists for Art Open, for drawing in May 2017 and April 2018, and for painting in June 2017. In 2020 I was chosen in an open call on the first Slovenian platform for contemporary artists - Artopolis (you can watch the video here: https://beta.artopolis.si/tv.php ) . In 2020 I became a part of the Animated Women Club (you can see the exhibition here: https://www.animateka.si/2020/en/animated-women/ ). Right now, I am founded by the Slovenian Ministry of Culture to study abroad.
Meta has hosted a '30 Minutes With...' episode, featuring artists Iris Pokovec & Matej Tomazin. Watch the conversation here.
Although all aspects of my life influence my work, I can say that Philosophy is the most significant one. Main theme in my practice is social justice, which reflects differently in each piece of my work.
