My name is Ganna Abdelhamid. I am 19 years old, studying Interior Architecture and Design. “Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated.” Design is not just what it looks, design is how it works. These two quotes made me understand what design is. As an Interior Designer; I am in the stage of understanding how to be creative. During this year, I had the perseverance and determination to work hard, understand the initial stages of the design and most importantly learning from the mistakes that I have done. Our mission in Year 1 was to design a town house, a compound in the New Capital City in Egypt (residential space), thinking about my user’s requirements and covid-19 pandemic, designing a space for live, work and play. Wooden Village is a name given to a modern farmhouse style project which is mix between rustic, vintage and modern. Added to that, the space is designed for two married couples and their daughter. The mother who is an artist, who has an organised personality. Meanwhile, the husband is an author with moody personality. An art studio and an office are required for their careers.
The project intention is to create a well function house that fulfils the user’s needs, but also a space to enjoy and appreciate the outside view. The interior plan takes after impartial colours and natural materials. Also, double height gives the illusion of extra space and connection between two levels. It sneaks in natural light. The floors are mainly made from wood floor, which is a tool to create an impression of bigger space. Using aged wooden beams with shiplap walls that are adhered to drywall lined with insulation to give the living room a very comfortable feel.
