Varsha Kankanala

Hello! I am Varsha Kankanala, a fashion designer specialising in womenswear. As a designer, I found inspiration from the Indian Heritage which helped me create my final major project, "Utsav".

Utsav is a contemporary womenswear collection which reflects Indian Culture and Heritage. I began my research by travelling to India, observing the patterns, monumental buildings and festivals celebrated around the country. I was inspired by the hues and pigments from Holi - the festival of colours, and Diwali – the festival of light. Observing the bright colours and patterns helped me develop a strong sense of pattern and contrast which is realised in my print design.
I have been practicing the traditional dance form, "Bharatanatyam" since childhood and this helped inspire garment and silhouette development.
