I am a student of masters in architecture. Having completed my bachelors in India I had practised for approximately two years before pursuing my post-graduate education. The biggest fear or dilemma that I faced as an architect after graduation was to place myself within the professional practice of architecture. I was equipped with the basic theories but was left clueless as to how these theories translated into work within the industry. I started to realise that my role as a designer or an architect in almost every project that I was involved with was very much limited. My own design process was extremely dependent on many extrinsic factors that I wasn’t equipped to deal with. Starting from materials, structural design, project management and extending to details such as ventilation and M.E.P ( Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing ) details. I was dependent on the input from a plethora of consultants and contractors. The primary reason why I am pursuing a postgraduate degree in architecture is to prepare myself better for the industry and be able to exercise greater control over the production of architecture as I envision it.
